Rd 2 - Sandringham 15102017

Round 2 - MCC 2 v Sandringham

The clubbies opened their 2017/2018 season with a home game in Division 3 against Sandringham. We started off our season with a great team effort and win, earning a bonus point after knocking off the required runs inside 20 overs. After winning the toss and opting to bowl first we bowled out Sandringham in 19 overs for 48. We used five bowlers who all took wickets in a great team performance. Steve Mellick took 2/9 of 6, Chris Joplin took 2/8 of 5, to open proceedings. They were ably backed up by Paul Varney 2/14, Matt Bennett 1/7 and Matt Phillips1/3.

Whilst we were chasing a small target the pitch wasn't good and we got the required runs in 13 overs to earn a bonus point. A target of around 80 would have been a tough ask on this pitch. After losing an early wicket, Danny Simpson (2), we were 1/2. However new boy Fraser Wilson and Dave Kavanagh put on 25 for the 2nd wicket we were always going to win. In the context of this game that was the match winning partnership. Fraser top scored with 14 followed by Dave Kavanagh with 9, after a few quick wickets we won 6 wickets down.

Overall the game was played in the right spirit, with Sandringham and their captain Sam D (old MCC clubbie) staying after the game for a chat and a beer.

Well done team and a great start to the new season.
