CRICKET PRESENTATION DINNER 2017 18
Date of Event : Wed Apr 18, 2018 10:00AM

Amy Vine and Sam Harper and were crowned the 2017/18 season Club Champions at the Cricket Presentation Dinner held last Friday night (April 13), being adjudged the best player in their respective 1st XI throughout the season. Amy made 524 runs at 43.67 across both the one-day and T20 competitions that included two centuries. The second of those, 108 not out off 135 balls where she batted through the innings in the semi-final against Box Hill, earned Amy the Brian Watson memorial Award for ‘the most outstanding performance by an MCC cricketer’ during the 2017/18 season.

Sam Harper received the Paul Sheahan Club Champion trophy in recognition of his 517 run season that also included two centuries, in addition to his 16 catches behind the stumps.

The Players MVP awards, voted upon by the players on a 3,2,1 basis each round across every Premier grade team, were taken out by Bridie Chesterfield and Alistair McCooke. Bridie led the 2nds run scoring and averages, making 429 runs at 26.81. Alistair had a terrific all-round season, making 505 runs and taking 23 wickets.

Lauren Innes (294 runs at 58.8 55) was voted the women’s Thirds Most Valuable Player.

The Youth Cricketer of the Year award, sponsored by the MCC XXIX Club, went to Jordan Watson and Wilson McGillivray that recognised his MCC performances. Jordan debuted in the 1st XI this season and played the majority of matches in the 1sts whilst Wilson built on his one 1st XI game from last season to play all bar one in the 1st XI. Both represented Victoria at under age level at their respective U.18 and U.1p national championships.

Shane Giese, who has been the driver of the club’s social committee and activities these past couple of seasons, was richly awarded Best Club Person.

MCC Club XI Players’ of the Season were Stephen Mellick (MCC 1) and Chris Kent (MCC 2). MCC Club XI co-ordinator, Andrew Baker, had the pleasure of handing over the MCC Club XI Competition Spirit of Cricket trophy that the MCC received at the recent competition awards night.

Outstanding performer’s in finals matches received trophies (see list below).

At the recent Premier Cricket Awards night, MCC people to figure were:

  • Premier Cricket Team of the Season – Kylie Crowley, Anna O’Donnell and Amy Vine
  • Fourth XI Player of the Season – Alistair McCooke
  • Curator of the Season (main oval – Scott West

The Cricket Presentation Dinner was also a night where the retirement of Ash Middlin was acknowledged. Close friend and former club captain and coach, Andrew Kent, introduced Ash and spoke glowingly of all the qualities many of us have got to know of Ash, for both his on-field performances and as an MCC ambassador; a true MCC person who has made an outstanding contribution over 19 seasons.

For the statistically minded, a summary of Ash’s playing record reads:

  • 330 matches across the 1st, 2nd and 3rd XIs (105 1st XI)
  • 6,455 runs @ 27.59 (six centuries and 27 half-centuries)
  • 340 catches (266 as wicket-keeper) and 36 stumpings
  • 37 wickets
  • Two 1st XI premierships, two 2nd XI premierships, two 3rd XI premierships
  • Four One-day titles (two 1st XI, one 2nd XI, one 3rd XI) and one 1st XI T20 title
