First XI skipper Matthew Brown’s (pictured) unbeaten 157 was the highlight of the first day of the men’s Premier two-day round against reigning premiers Dandenong. Batting first on an Albert pitch that may have ‘greened up’ overnight to give the bowlers early encouragement, Charles Lill opened up in his 1st XI debut after his last round century and 352 runs for the year to date. When a promising opening partnership of 37 was broken, wickets fell a little too regularly for our liking and we were soon 4 for 80.

Matthew, batting at no.4, was joined by Jack Harper and they steadied the innings with a 90 run partnership. Jack departed at 5/170 but with Matthew relishing the conditions he endured until stumps, batting for 342 minutes, facing 267 deliveries, 16 of which were dispatched to the boundary and three over it. The Demons finished the day well placed at 7 for 326.

The 2nds chased leather all day with the Panthers making 9 for 340. Wilson McGillivray did best taking 3/78 off 24 overs. The 3rds had an up and down day, being bowled out for 189 with Alex Cesarios (35) and Joel Ludik (48) doing well early. Dandenong will resume at 0/9.

The 4th XI went on a run rampage, knocking up 279 in just 68 overs. Finn Brabham (73) would have been pleased to put his skills on show after recent promising starts were cut short. Jonty Leadbeater made a welcome return to Demon colours making 59 in his first hit for the season and Michael Cesarios (54) chimed in for a half century. In a change of pace, Dandenong made just 28 from their 19 overs with the Demons grabbing two handy wickets before stumps.

Our Premier women’s 1st and 2nd XIs going ‘three from three’ in their T20 rounds was another notable performance. The 1sts bounced back from losing their opening T20 of the season last Wednesday night against a star studded EMP line up to easily account for Ringwood. Teagan Parker (51 not out) provided the backbone to the innings with Kylie Crowley (32) and Izzy Cloke (22 n.o.) pushing the closing tally to 3/134. A tight performance in the field brought about a 47-run win with Amy Yates (2/12) the multiple wicket-taker.

The 2nds started their T20 year with back-to-back games against Prahran and accounted for them comfortably in both matches. Parry Jenkins (22 n.o. and 3/8 followed by 47 n.o. and 2/5) had a remarkable day at the top and of the batting order then with ball in hand. Jordan Watson (2/8 and 25 n.o., then 2/15) had a pretty good all round day of her own. Bridie Chesterfield (39 n.o.) was the other main contributor in game 2.

The women’s ‘Shield’ side are now in one-day (40 overs a side) mode.  Alana D’Aquino (49) scored the bulk of her team’s 118 with Mia Perrin also contributing 28; a target passed six down.

The Club XI teams were unable to build on last week’s winning double. The Div 2 team went very close, falling just four short when bowled out on the last ball of the innings. The Div 3 side were dismissed for 142 and passed two down on the 29th over.
