Hayley Jensen took out the coveted Una Paisley Medal, awarded to the Premier Firsts One-day Player of the Season, at the Premier Cricket Awards night last Friday evening. It continues a series of ‘firsts’ for Hayley, being the first MCC female cricketer to score a century for the Demons in her first season with us in 2014/15, the first from MCC to play for Vic Spirit, now the first Demon Una Paisley Award winner.
The award is voted upon by the umpires (3, 2, 1 each), along the same lines as the men’s Jack Ryder Medal that some may be more familiar with, for the one-day competition only given the split nature of the T20 competition that contained two additional teams. Hayley played in just six of the 10 one-day rounds, making 239 runs at 79.6 and taking 13 wickets @ 6.9 during the regular season that saw her take out the take out the medal by six votes.
Congratulations Hayley from all at MCC.
In other awards, it was no surprise that Hayley was named the Women’s Premier Team of the Season and we were delighted that Amy Vine and Anna O’Donnell also gained selection. Men’s captain Matthew Brown was recognised for his outstanding season with the bat by being named opening bat for the Men’s Premier Team of the Season.
At the State & Media Awards held a week earlier, Cameron White won the Dean Jones Medal for the player judged to have had the best performances for Victoria during the Matador BBQs One-Day Cup tournament while Will Pucovski received the Commonwealth Bank Future Stars Award.
