MCC WOMEN MAINTAIN THEIR WINNING WAYS
Date of Event Melbourne Cricket Club : Fri Nov 8, 2019 5:04PM
Bridie Chesterfield after her double of 66 no and 61.

Melbourne’s weather continues to have an impact on our weekend cricketers however our women’s teams marched on in their T20 season campaign, winning four of their five 1st and 2nd XI T20 matches played over the past week.

The 2nds won their final two T20 rounds to secure a semi-final spot after finishing third on the ladder, to be played on Wednesday December 4. Bridie Chesterfield (pictured) was the star performer scoring 66 n.o. and 61 in the double header against Dandenong last Sunday. Both were in chases of a similar score line, where Madalyn Smith, Parry Jenkins (game one) and Steph Nichols (2 for 7 off 3 overs in game 2) were the multiple wicket takers. Ella Stallwood (31) gave good support to Bridie in the second match.

The 1sts went down by the narrowest of margins in their rain delayed first match reduced to 17 overs. After Teagan Parker top scorer with an unbeaten 31, Steph Townsend’s 3 for 17 wasn’t enough to hold Dandenong out. In game 2, our innings was curtailed after 5.4 overs at 0/37, with Dandenong falling 13 short of the Duckworth Lewis target of 53.

The 1sts then played the first of four mid-week T20 matches on Wednesday night, hosting Ringwood. Both teams were able to field interstate WBBL players and we were well served by Carly Leeson (Renegades) who took 3 for 13 and removed the dangerous Lizelle Lee who made a century for the Stars last weekend. Renegade team mate Courtney Webb, who plays more regularly for us, wasted no time chasing Ringwood’s 9/109, cracking four 4s and three 6s in her 41 off 17 balls. Amy Vine continued her fine form batting through for an unbeaten 50.

The win keeps us in the top two with here T20 rounds to play.

Day two of the men’s Premier round against Northcote was totally washed out. The one thing gained was the six points the 2nd XI has already achieved on the first day.

The only men’s action this week was out at Greenvale Reserve on Wednesday night where we took on the Greenvale Kangaroos in round 3 of the Vic Super Slam. A disciplined bowling performance, combined with several high quality outfield catches, kept the Kangaroos to 9/121. Sam Harper (39 off 35) and Cameron White (33 off 27) set us well on course for a win, brought home by Meyrick Buchanan 36 n.o. off 21, three 4s and a six) in 16 overs to put us back in the Vic Super Slam picture.

This coming weekend, in men’s Premier the Demons play Kingston Hawthorn where the 1st XI compete for the Bruce Church Perpetual Trophy at the Albert Ground. The 1st and 2nd XIs play a two-day fixture across Saturday and Sunday, while the 3rd and 4th XIs play a one-day match on Saturday.

The women’s teams play EMP (1sts at Beaumaris, 2nds away) in their first one-day round of the season. The women’s Shield team as well as the two MCC Club XI teams also resume.
