Round 14 - MCC 2 v Old Carey

We set out on Sunday with high hopes after our convincing first up win over Sandringham. We bowled first and things went according to plan. We opened up with the spin of Iyer and the nagging medium pacer Chris Joplin. Joplin made the first break through and Old Carey were 1/8 off 6 overs. After this Bischoff, Bennett and Baker all bowled very tightly, until Grigg broke through in the last over before drinks taking his first wicket for the club. After 20 overs Old Carey were 2/48. John Jackson was introduced in the 26th over and managed to find the edge, Baker dived to his right in slips and took a brilliant one handed catch. The following ball Jackson trapped the incoming batsman in front and was on a hat trick, but unfortunately it didn't come off. Wickets tumbled regularly and Old Carey were bowled out for 138 in the 39th over.

Wicket takers were Jackson 2/6, Joplin 2/16, Kent 2/27, Grigg 1/11, Iyer 1/20 and Bischoff 1/32. Dave Kavanagh also produced a very good run out. Overall all the bowlers did a great job and the fielding was first class, a great effort in the field.

We needed 139 to win which was a challenging but gettable target. Unfortunately a batting collapse followed and after 12 overs we were 5/23. Our number 11 Bischoff was the top scorer with 12 no with the last wicket stand being the highest for the innings with 15. All out for 69 in 31 overs, a disappointing end after a great team effort in the field.
