Much-loved clubman and multiple premiership player Sam Brewin reached the milestone of 200 Premier matches for MCC in Saturday’s 3rd XI quarter final and afterwards, emotionally announced to his teammates that it would be his last.
Commitments made prior to the COVID-led extended season meant the thrilling victory would be the last one for the popular Bendigo product, who made over 3,000 runs for the Club and took more than 100 wickets. Two centuries and 3 x 5 wicket hauls were personal highlights in a career in which he was a member of four premiership teams.
The consummate clubman, Bruzar choked his way through a heartfelt announcement – and his trademark long locks - to the players post-match, urging them to “get the job done” in the remaining finals and highlighting what the MCC meant to him. He was supported in his final outing by wife Lisa and parents John and Kate. Well played Bruzar on a fine career and contribution.
